Just Us Girls #345 - Photo Week

Hi everyone!  I'm the hostess at Just Us Girls this week for our Photo Week challenge.  I chose this pretty, sunny photo of a craft room.

Here's a close-up of the photo so you can see more details.

What caught my attention was the yellow wallpaper and those pretty posies!  I started by stamping the background with yellow ink and an old Stampin' Up background stamp.  I then die cut a window in the center so I could create a shaker card.  After I created the shaker, I realized I should have added more sequins and glued some down so they didn't all fall to the bottom!  The flowers were stamped and layered onto the card with dimensionals, and the sentiment was stamped onto a banner.  I added more sequins and Wink of Stella on the flowers.  I'm giving this to my mom because she fell (again!) and broke her shoulder.  She's currently in a rehab facility because she can't use her walker and needs more care.  Hopefully she'll be back at her assisted living facility soon, and I'm also hoping this cheers her up.  She loves the color yellow, too!

I used this week's sketch from Freshly Made Sketches.

Time Out #57 - Inspired by Words Challenge

"May all your weeds be wildflowers"
What a beautiful sentiment!  That's the inspiration for our current Time Out challenge.

I received this great stamp set and matching dies from my good friend Cheryl for my birthday last month. I just had to use them for this challenge.  I stamped this swag of flowers on watercolor paper in Versafine onyx black ink and embossed it with clear powder.  Then I for the first time used my Kuretake watercolors to color it.  I matched the colors to the pattern paper, mixing some to get the colors I needed.  I die cut the swag and mounted it on dimensional tape, added the sentiments, and sequins.  I love this color palette.

I used this sketch from Freshly Made Sketches as my starting point.

Our challenge is sponsored by Clearly Besotted Stamps, and they are giving a £15 evoucher to the winner of this challenge!

Just Us Girls #343 - Trend Week

Hi friends!  We have a fun new challenge going on over at Just Us Girls!  It's our Trend Week, and Judy chose vellum as the trend to use this week.  It's certainly been making a comeback in blog land!

This is what I came up with.  I have to say that it's a case of a card Jennifer McGuire did in a recent Online Card Class called Clear and Sheer. I don't want to go into detail on how I colored the background (it's a paid class), but I embossed the image with white embossing powder, added the banner with a tiny attacher, and added sequins.  The vellum overlay has a flap on the other side that I attached to the cardstock base with strong adhesive.  I love this look and it was surprisingly easy to do!  I like the rainbow colors, but I may have to do more in ombre colors too!

Time Out #56 Reminder - CASE with a Twist

Hi everyone!  We are in week two over at the Time Out blog for our CASE with a Twist challenge.  I missed the first week of the challenge because I was sick and couldn't get a card done.  I don't like to work ahead (I know lots of you do), but I've always waited to do my cards a day or two before they are due.  It's just the way I roll!  And sometimes it gets me into trouble!

The GORGEOUS card we are CASE-ing is this one by Kay Miller.  I'm so crushing on all the cards she creates!  And this one is just amazing!  I'm so glad she shared this one with us!

I guess you can say that I pretty much cased her card exactly (I just loved this card!).  However, I changed up a few things like the images and I used vellum for the large leaves. I added some sequins and rounded one corner.

Just Us Girls #342 - Word Week

Mother's Day is tomorrow, and this week word challenge at Just Us Girls gave me the perfect word to use:  Butterfly.

I've had this butterfly cover plate in my unused box for a while, so I pulled it out.  It's die cut from white card stock then sponged with mustard seed, spiced marmalade, and ripe persimmon distress inks.  (My mom likes yellow and this is for her!)  This was adhered to the card base, which was stamped with a text stamp in smoky shadow ink.  I added the sentiment on a banner and enamel dots.  The butterflies are covered in Wink of Stella.
